From social media platforms to mobile apps and video games, the online landscape overflows with advertisements and persuasive tactics. AdWiseOnline campaign resources aim to equip YOU(th) with the knowledge they need to outsmart online ads and traps and know their rights.

The Google summit on Fighting Misinformation online took place in Brussels on Thursday, 21 March 2024.  The event served as an opportunity to reflect on emerging disinformation trends and media literacy challenges moving forward, and especially in the context of the upcoming European elections, followed by other crucial elections in the United States and India later in the year. One of the sessions was called "Building Trust - Media Literacy with and for Young Voters" and saw the involvement and participation of eight BIK Youth Ambassadors. On Tuesday, 27 February 2024, Maja, our BIK Youth Ambassador from Poland, participated in the Content with Conscience conference in Brussels.  She was one of the speakers at the breakout session ‘Ethics of kidfluences, mom/dad influencers, and sharing’. She shares her experience and insights,  offering a unique perspective on the discussed topics.

Seran, a BIK Youth Panellist from Austria, shares her reflections on the Safer Internet Forum. The Danish Safer Internet Centre spoke to Vibeke, who participated in the BIK Youth Panel at last year’s Safer Internet Forum in Brussels. She shared her insights on the Forum and the importance of involving youth in promoting online safety. 

On Tuesday, 6 February 2024, we celebrated the 21st edition of Safer Internet Day (SID), with events and activities taking place right across the globe. With a theme, once again, of “Together for a better internet”, the day called upon all stakeholders to join together to make the internet a safer and better place for all, and especially for children and young people. The day was a great success, and we are excited to share with you just a few of the achievements so far from the coordination level.  

The CIS Digital Camp, organised by the Portuguese Safer Internet Centre and its partners, took place from 24 to 28 July 2023 in the city of Portalegre. For five days, 46 secondary school and vocational school students were able to learn how to use the internet safely. 

Safer Internet Day (SID) is just around the corner, scheduled for Tuesday, February 6, 2024. On this day, millions of people around the world will unite under the theme "Together for a Better Internet" for the 21st edition of this significant event. We invite you to join the movement and help us ensure that the internet is a place of opportunities for children and young people where they can create, engage, and share positively and freely.

Portugal was once again represented at the Safer Internet Forum (SIF) 2023. In this edition, under the theme "Empowering YOUth with skills for the Digital Decade," four young Portuguese individuals participated, aged between 15 and 19. Two joined the BIK Youth Panel; one was a member of the Youth Advisory Group (SIF YAG), and another attended as a delegate. Playing an active role not only in the preparation but also during the Forum itself, they all provided very positive feedback on their experience. 

On 31 October 2023, ECPAT Taiwan hosted the ECPAT International Conference on child safety. Our BIK Youth Ambassador, Kathrin Morasch, a longtime advocate for online safety for children and youth, provides us with her insights regarding the conference and reflects on her involvement as a keynote speaker, sharing the perspective of the BIK+ strategy, youth participation and the European Union's rules protecting minors.
