In Slovenia, there is still a lack of good positive content for children. We do believe that the main reason is the relatively small market compared to high production costs. In most cases, online content is available in the form of a website that unifies the educational content, animations, video stories, games, quizzes, and so on. There are some good online educational resources produced by publishing houses. But, in most cases, these materials are not available for free. These online resources are used in schools as a part of curricula and a yearly fee has to be paid for usage by each individual parent.
Additionally, there are some public companies that can afford the production of the high-quality online content for children. It is very interesting that the majority of companies that produce positive online content for children are from the field of public supply of drinking water and the wastewater draining and treatment services.  In addition to this, you can also find the online content for children that has been produced with the aim to promote commercial brands (food, drinks, and so on).
In order to increase the popularity of the production of the online content for children, the category "Best children's online content" was included as one of the Netko competition categories in 2010 and has been awarded six times since then. The Netko Award is a competition for the best digital projects for websites, mobile apps or projects in the sphere of social media in Slovenia. The award is granted by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia.
