The yearly Dutch Media Literacy Week (Week van de Mediawijsheid) kicked off with the Media Literacy Debate (Mediawijsheid Debat) on November 17th, 2017 in The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision. Youngsters, teachers and media makers engaged in a conversation about privacy, sharing information, dealing with fake news, the role of professional media, what we can learn from each other and much more. The jury consisted of several well-known figures. The debate also aired on a national television channel.

The Media Literacy Debate is a discussion starter for secondary education. What can pupils and teachers learn from each other? After the campaign, schools can continue the debate in the classroom, based on 4 statements/topics and accompanying videos. The Media Literacy Debate is organized by Mediawijzer.net, The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, VodafoneZiggo and Nederlands Debat Instituut.
