![]() | White paper - Choosing apps for children: the do's and don'tsDescriptionA qualitative childrens’ app engages a child in the story, looks nice and the storyline and games are clear. A child is fascinated by it and has obvious fun in playing it. Great to see. Every year, many new apps are released. Mediawijzer.net awards the ‘Gouden Guppy’ (Golden Guppy, previously called the ‘Media Ukkie Award’) to the best app for young children (0-6 years), meant to reward and encourage appmakers. But what makes an app a good app? What should parents, educators or teachers pay attention to when they let their children play with apps? A group of experts in the field of (media) education, games and game development, design, reading and technology formulated an answer to these questions. That is what this white paper is about.
