This year, the theme is ‘The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Consumption and Production' which seamlessly links to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Thus, International Youth Day brings the focus to young people, showcasing their active participation in discussions and in involving their peers in actions that make a difference to poverty eradication and achieving sustainable development through sustainable consumption and production.

To produce change it often takes one person who commits to an activity and tries to influence those around them to collaborate and work together towards achieving the change. Even more so, young people can become agents of change and contribute to implementing the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and, more specifically, help to make the change happen.

To mark the day, a wide range of events and activities will be organised all over the world. You can check out the International Youth Day (IYD) world map of events to see what is happening in your country and how you can get involved. Likewise, you can participate in the Youth video competition on climate change and share with other young people how you are shaping a more sustainable future for yourself and for your peers.

You can also follow the events on social media via the United Nations Youth Facebook page and @UN4Youth on Twitter.
