Finnish hotline Save the Children actively engages in prevention of sexual violence against children

Finnish hotline Save the Children (SCF) organised a panel discussion on "Children's Rights in Digital Media" at SuomiAreena 2019, the biggest public debate forum in Finland. The panel discussion received broad national media coverage on TV and online media channels.

The panel of experts included former Finnish President Tarja Halonen, Ombudsman for Children in Finland Elina Pekkarinen, Chief Superintendent Kimmo Ulkuniemi from the National Police Board of Finland, university Lecturer Elina Kontu from University of Helsinki, politician Jyrki Kasvi, project coordinator Aino Taipalus from Osallisuuden Aika ry and SCF Finnish hotline Advisor Hanna-Leena Laitinen.

SCF Finnish hotline published, in cooperation with Telia Company, a guide for parents on how to support and protect children in gaming and esports. The newly published guide was distributed in ASSEMBLY 2019 by SCF Advisor Hanna-Leena Laitinen and has received lots of positive feedback. ASSEMBLY events are the largest and most respected "demo-scene" events in the world bringing together people interested in demo-scene, games and computers.

SCF Finnish hotline's nationwide awareness raising campaign #DeepFakeChallenge already has  over 2.3 million hits on social media. The campaign promotes media education and increases awareness of online safety. The campaign video has been released with social media star Jennifer Käld on Saturday, 17 August at Tubecon 2019, the biggest YouTube-community live event in Finland. After Tubecon, Finland's biggest TV channel will broadcast the campaign video. At the same time, the Finnish Safer Internet Centre (SIC) will have a big social media campaign for children on Instagram.

Save the Children Finland, the hotline partner of the Finnish Safer Internet Centre (SIC), strongly supported the recent European Day on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, an annual event which takes place on 18 November.
