Reporting illegal content, a discouraging task?

Being a responsible internet user can be a tough job when it comes to finding out how and where to report harmful content. Gorvernmental entities, NGOs, internet service providers, all may provide reporting tools, but how to choose the right one, when there is an urgent need to inform the right person as quickly and efficiently as possible?

French hotline Point de Contact celebrated Safer Internet Day (SID) 2019 by launching an add-on that makes reporting harmful content easy. In addition to the web form that is available on the website, Point de Contact created a browser add-on that allows reporting a URL with potentially illegal content without visiting the website of the hotline.

Available on every popular browser

On the Point de Contact website, the internet users can download the extension for their preferred browser: Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari, Edge, Tor.

A one-click button makes reporting easy!

With this functionality, it is now possible to report harmful content in only a few clicks.

Once the users have clicked on the Point de Contact plugin, the URL has already been included in the report. Afterwards, they must select an offense category and they can leave a message with further information about the content they want to report. They can choose to report anonymously or to provide their email address if they want to be informed of the outcome of their report. One last click, and the report is sent!
