Activities of the Hungarian hotline on Safer Internet Day 2019

In Hungary, widespread online abuse where "content is made accessible without permission" spurred five Communication and Media Science BA students from the Corvinus University of Budapest to produce a film that was supported by National Media and Infocommunications Authority. Now, to mark Safer Internet Day 2019, it was promoted – with consent from the authors – as part of a mini-campaign on YouTube.

The students made a three-minute film with a fast-paced plot that unfolds entirely on the screen of the phone of the protagonist, Dóri. The story picks up after a break-up and, starting from Dóri's Instagram profile, it is revealed how the victim's now ex-boyfriend abuses some private images.

It is an instructive story that also showcases the internet hotline as a reporting portal and resource for online problems. The National Media and Infocommunications Authority is a proud promoting partner of this work.

This mini-campaign was the concluding phase of a national campaign that promoted the nine reporting categories of the internet hotline, emphasising the importance of reporting CSAM.

Additionally, on Safer Internet Day, the internet hotline organised an internal workshop for colleagues of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority with the objective of educating parents on how to keep children safe online. This workshop on the safe use of the internet was practice-oriented and leveraged the experience of the hotline team. The most common online issues for children aged 0-8 and 9-16 were analysed and discussed with the participants.
