The UK Safer Internet Centre (SIC) worked in close partnership with the Welsh Government to run a competition for SID, calling on young people to create apps that help to create a better internet. Some fantastic submissions were received from both younger children (5-11 years old) and young people (aged 11-18).

The winning apps were announced officially on Safer Internet Day and launched on both the Google Play store and the iTunes app store. They can be downloaded and used by young people all over the world.

The Primary app winner was the Safe eExplorers app created by Lilli and Georgia from Cornist Park school in Flintshire, North Wales. The app teaches younger children about eSafety and contains do's and don'ts as well as useful information and links. It is available in English and Welsh on the Google Play store.

The Secondary app winner was Sam and a team of Digital Leaders at Ysgol Y Preseli in Pembrokeshire, South West Wales. My Username Generator is a great app to help younger children to create safe usernames. You can find it and download it on the Google Play store and the iTunes App store.

Both of the winning schools hosted events in Wales for Safer Internet Day, which were attended by many young people, parents and teachers. At the events, the young app makers demonstrated the apps and received their official prizes.
