International Day of Happiness

The United Nations International Day of Happiness recognises the relevance of happiness and wellbeing as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of human beings around the world, and the importance of their recognition in public policy objectives.

In relation to our Better Internet for Kids (BIK) activities, the day stresses the importance of general wellbeing of users, especially when thinking of children and young people.

On 26 April 2016, the Better Internet for Kids Coordination Team will be represented in a conference titled ‘Young people's mental health in Europe: promoting prevention and early intervention through multi-sector cooperation', reflecting on the role different stakeholders have to play to ensure the wellbeing of young people in the offline and the online world. Further information can be found here.

On a daily basis, we continue to look at ways to foster the positives of being online and raise awareness of the important of online respect.  Additionally, we provide further assistance to children and young people whenever they encounter issues online through the work of our network of helplines. Find contact details for your national helpline at https://helplines.betterinternetforkids.eu.

We hope that today you join us in celebrating the International Day of Happiness by being kind online to ensure a better internet for all!
