The National Plan for Preventing and Combating Bullying and Cyberbullying was launched in October 2019 by the Portuguese Ministry of Education. Entitled "A School Without Bullying. A School Without Violence", this plan aims to provide educational communities with a series of instruments that may help them prevent and combat efficiently these forms of violence, especially among the youngest.

One of the main axis of this plan encompasses training courses. In this context, two editions of the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) - "Bullying and Cyberbullying: Prevent & Act" took place. These MOOCs target teachers, educators, parents and guardians, psychologists, security forces and other professionals who perform functions in educational contexts. Both MOOCs are promoted by the Portuguese Safer Internet Centre (SIC), and consequenlty had 5,333 registrations and 1,368 participants completing the courses successfully. The first edition of this course was held in June 2019 and the second in February 2020.

The main objective of these training courses was to raise the participants' awareness of the issues related to bullying and cyberbullying by providing theoretical knowledge as well as practical skills that allow participants to identify, prevent, and intervene if faced with bullying and cyberbullying situations.
The training content included the following modules:

  • Module 1 - Bullying
  • Module 2 - Cyberbullying and communication through the screen
  • Module 3 - Internet safety and cyberbullying
  • Module 4 - Intervention approaches to bullying and cyberbullying

More information about these courses can be found on the website of the Portuguese Ministry of Education. You can also watch the course's video resources on YouTube.
