On Monday, 17 September 2018, the Cypriot Ministry of Education and Culture presented the "National Strategy for a Better Internet for Children" and the Helpline and Hotline 1480 services, at a press conference.

The National Strategy for a Better Internet for Children in Cyprus was developed within the framework of Action 14 of the Cybersecurity Strategy of the Republic of Cyprus and with the cooperation of the members of the Working Party on the National Education/Information Programme. The Strategy was approved by the Council of Ministers on 19 December 2018 (Decision date 19/12/18 and Decision no. 83.979).

The National Strategy for a Better Internet for Children in Cyprus has taken into account the guidelines of the European Strategy for a Better Internet for Children. It is inspired by other strategies and actions at national, European, and international level, which were adapted to the Cypriot context, based on an assessment of the needs of different population groups (teachers, parents and children).

For the promotion and monitoring of the strategy, an inter-ministerial committee has been established, composed of the Minister of Education and Culture, the Minister of Justice and Public Order, the Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, and the Commissioner of Electronic Communications and Postal Regulations.

For more information, read the Cypriot National Strategy for a Better Internet for Children. The Strategy's actions are supported by the European co-funded project CYberSafety – National Awareness Centre through which, among other things, education and information actions are promoted.

During the press conference, the operation of the Helpline and Hotline Line 1480 services was also presented and the video "Enjoy your online routes with safety and responsibility" was shown. The short version of the video is scheduled to be broadcast on TV channels.
