Alliance to Better Protect Minors Online announces commitments

Today, 22 leading ICT and media companies of the Alliance to Better Protect Minors Online have announced their individual commitments describing ongoing and future actions to create a safer and better online environment for minors.

Launched on Safer Internet Day, 7 February 2017, the Alliance is a self-regulatory initiative to address harmful content, conduct and contact online. Brokered by the European Commission in line with its Better Internet for Kids (BIK) strategy, it sees tech and telecoms companies, broadcasters, NGOs and UNICEF working together to create a safe digital environment. Following the issue of a Statement of Purpose back in February, Alliance members had three months to confirm their individual commitments relating to promoting user empowerment, sharing of best practices, scaling up of awareness-raising efforts, and increasing access to positive, educational diversified content online.

The involved companies today announced their goals and action plans, for example, taking into account specific vulnerabilities and needs of ever younger users; dedicating efforts in scaling up activities towards parents and families; and enhancing cooperation with other relevant stakeholders including the joint Insafe-INHOPE network Safer Internet Centres (SICs) in Europe.

For further information, see the announcement on the EC's Digital Single Market website. The individual company statements can be accessed here.
