Digital Citizen Summit

The Digital Citizenship Summit brings together people, organisations and companies to promote the safe, savvy and ethical use of social media and technology. The summit takes a multi-stakeholder approach to sharing ideas and best practices, and empowering citizens to be the digital change. The next event will be held on Friday, 28 October 2016 at Twitter headquarters in San Francisco, and will be livestreamed to a global audience via Twitter's @TwitterSafety profile and embedded on the BeTheDigitalChange.com website.

The Digital Citizenship Summit was co-founded in 2015 by David Ryan Polgar, a three-time TEDx speaker who is a frequent tech commentator and consultant focusing on issues of cyber ethics, tech balance, and digital citizenship. With a background as an attorney and educator, he has carved out a unique career as a ‘Tech Ethicist', exploring the ethical, legal and emotional impact of social media and technology. Polgar currently serves as the Chief of Trust & Safety for Swedish social messaging platform Friendbase. On 4 October 2016, he will be presenting ‘Digital Citizenship: A Multi-Stakeholder Approach' for the eTwinning community of schools in Europe.

The Digital Citizenship Summit was started last year in the United States by David Ryan Polgar and Dr. Marialice B.F.X. Curran, and has quickly expanded with a global outlook. In January 2016, Digital Citizenship Summit UK was held at Bournemouth University in England, and planning is underway for events in Ireland, Australia, Spain and more. The goal is to curate a diverse range of the best thinkers and resources, while also broadening the appeal of digital citizenship and bringing new voices to the table. It will serve as a year-round continuous conversation where stakeholders can find points of collaboration, while trying to work out some of the thorny issues facing social media and tech use.
