Children's rights in Sweden

Swedish law ensures that children are well protected and their rights are defended. In 2010, the Swedish Government formulated a strategy to strengthen the rights of the child in Sweden (in English).

The strategy requires, for example, that the physical and mental integrity of the child will be respected in all circumstances.

At the beginning of the year, the Swedish government announced that it intends to make the ‘Convention on the Rights of the Child' part of Swedish law, and gave a committee/inquiry the task to investigate what the consequences will be. The Inquiry is to deliver a full report by 28 February 2016. Swedish UNICEF and other child rights organisations are part of the Inquiry's advisory board.
