But actually, although pupils may be called ‘digital natives' since they grow up using communication technologies, most of the time they might only be better in operating their devices - but not in reference to their online (social) behaviour and dealing with media content.

Media education is an important part of the curriculum in Luxembourgish primary schools. The overall aim of the interdisciplinary field of media education is a positive, responsible and safety-oriented online behaviour of the pupils. To support primary school teachers in achieving this aim, BEE SECURE offers a practical activity handbook with easy-to-use work sheets, games and activities for grade 1-6 called "Pädagogischer Leitfaden zur Informationssicherheit - Arbeitsblätter zur Förderung einer sicheren Benutzung der Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien in der Grundschule".

It covers topics such as password safety, cyberbullying, online reputation, copyright, basic knowledge of technical infrastructure of the internet, privacy and safety rules. Thus, it is now easier for primary school teachers to teach basic competences of online behaviour without necessarily being experts in the field.

It is available in German in the BIK Resource gallery or from the BEE SECURE website.
