Minimum age

(Instagram requires everyone to be at least 13 years old before they can create an account; in some jurisdictions, this age limit may be higher)

Instagram is an online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, and share them on a variety of social networking platforms.

A new feature has recently been added - Instagram Story - which allows users to post videos/photos for 24 hours only. View the Instagram blog post on Introducing Instagram Stories to find out more.

In September 2016, Instagram added a new filter option, with an explanatory blog article ‘Keeping comments safe on Instagram'. Our UK Safer Internet Centre (SIC) has already responded with an article - Instagram introduces new comment moderation tools.

In October 2016, Instagram announced that it is providing updated tools that provide critical resources for people who may be thinking about self-injury or suicide, as well as resources for their concerned friends and family. This new feature is available in 40 countries - further information is available in the Instagram Help Center.
