Safer Internet Day 2019 in Ireland: HTML Heroes, SID Ambassadors, Awards and more

Across Ireland, Safer Internet Day (SID) has attracted more participants than ever before. This year, almost 145,000 people signed up to Safer Internet Day in the Ireland Event Map, highlighting what they were doing to celebrate Safer Internet Day. Over 140 countries observe Safer Internet Day worldwide, and that number is growing each year. To mark Safer Internet Day 2019, on Tuesday, 5 February 2019, Webwise, the internet safety initiative of the Department of Education and Skills and Irish Safer Internet Centre (SIC), launched a new educational resource called "HTML Heroes – An Introduction to the Internet".

Digital Citizen Summit

The Digital Citizenship Summit brings together people, organisations and companies to promote the safe, savvy and ethical use of social media and technology. The summit takes a multi-stakeholder approach to sharing ideas and best practices, and empowering citizens to be the digital change. The next event will be held on Friday, 28 October 2016 at Twitter headquarters in San Francisco, and will be livestreamed to a global audience via Twitter's @TwitterSafety profile and embedded on the BeTheDigitalChange.com website.

Twitter Q&A session

The Insafe network of European Safer Internet Centres hosted a Twitter Q&A session on 14 April 2016, answering questions from users about online safety topics. The Twitter Q&A session focused on four key areas: cyberbullying, online relationships, big data and copyright.  These were the topics debated during the recent eSafety eTwinning learning event which provided information and tips, as well as fostered debate, on online safety for teachers.

eSafety Twitter Q&A

From the 1-12 April, the Insafe coordination team is hosting an eTwinning Learning event providing information and tips, as well as fostering debates on eSafety for teachers. eSafety covers a wide range of issues, including cyberbullying, privacy and online reputation. Schools have a key role to play here in terms of providing education to pupils (and possibly parents) in order to provide them with the skills and tools that they need to stay safe online.
