Sexual messages, pictures and videos reach young people online every day. Without the consent of the recipient, this must be classified as sexual harassment. As in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic communication has shifted to the digital space even more, the German Awareness Centre klicksafe offers advice for those affected and recommends that children and young people should be made aware of sexual border violations in the digital world in an age-appropriate manner.

#DigitalRespect4Her – Insafe resources on online violence against young women

The #DigitalRespect4Her campaign is an initiative launched by Commissioners for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality Věra Jourová and for Digital Economy and Society Mariya Gabriel to raise awareness of the gender-specific violence young girls and women face online on a daily basis. Indeed, women are 27 times more likely than men to be harassed online (this includes online sexual harassment and stalking) and they sometimes face such abuse at a very young age.

#DigitalRespect4Her, a campaign against online violence against girls and women

Commissioners for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality Věra Jourová and for Digital Economy and Society Mariya Gabriel launched #DigitalRespect4Her on Tuesday, 16 April 2019, with Members of the European Parliament, including President Antonio Tajani. This campaign aims to raise awareness of the violence that women face online on a daily basis.

'Step Up, Speak Up' - Youth-led event in Brussels to tackle online sexual harassment

On 11th April 2019 in Brussels, much-needed and ground-breaking resources will be launched to help tackle online sexual harassment among young people. Experts from the UK, Denmark and Hungary who have been working on this issue for the past two years will be present at the event. The launch will also be an opportunity to meet and talk to young people from these countries and hear them talk about what support they need from professionals.

Safer Internet Day and Media Literacy Week in Finland
