Increased collaborations on hacking in the Netherlands

Lately, hacking has been enjoying significant attention in the Netherlands. The Dutch Safer Internet Centre (SIC) regularly receives messages from organisations that look for information and/or cooperation on the topic – a positive sign for the SIC, which is increasingly seen as the point of entry for partner organisations looking to develop resources on hacking.

Release of Dutch online safety lesson materials for Safer Internet Day

For the 2020 edition of Safer Internet Day (SID), the Dutch Safer Internet Centre (SIC) relied more importantly on collaboration with partner organisations, resulting in two main events: the European Youth Day with Europol and the Dutch helpline; and the official launch of new lesson material with Google and one of the SIC's partners. The Dutch SIC also published a press release on a research they conducted, looking at the way parents and children react in case of online emergency.

On Tuesday, 11 February 2020, Europol marked Safer Internet Day by organising its third European Youth Day, for which 150 students were invited to the organisation's headquarters.

Financial sextortion study in young boys and adolescents

The Dutch helpline for child sexual abuse, Helpwanted.nl, is conducting a study on financial sextortion. This study is financed by the Stiching Achmea Slachtoffer en Samenleving (SASS) (in English, Achmea Foundation: Victim and Society) and is carried out in cooperation with Slachtofferhulp Nederland (in English, Victim Support the Netherlands).

#DigiTuesday – Nation-wide Dutch study on children's digital literacy in the classroom

The Dutch Safer Internet Centre (SIC) commissioned a research on how digital literacy is progressing in primary schools according to teachers, school directors and ICT coordinators. The results were published on Tuesday, 24 September and received broad national media coverage on television, radio and in newspapers.
