New mobile app from the Bulgarian SIC Helpline and Hotline

The Bulgarian Safer Internet Centre launched a new mobile application to mark the 15th edition of Safer Internet Day. The application provides quick access to the Safer Internet Centre Helpline and Hotline. It equally includes a password strength checker and provides a test to check one's knowledge about safer use of internet.

Bulgaria builds a national Cyberscouts network

For the third year running, the Bulgarian Safer Internet Centre (SIC) and its hotline have been training 12 and 13-year-old students across the country to advise and help their peers who have faced a risk or an incident on the internet. With eighteen completed trainings and four more coming up this autumn, the Cyberscouts' network will number more than 500 students in over 30 cities across the country.

Bulgaria: Are children empowered to benefit from the internet?

Challenging hate speech in Bulgaria

Over the past few years, society in Bulgaria has been affected by the ever-growing wave of aggressive, offensive and discriminative viewpoints, including xenophobia and racism. This flood of hate speech via online media, internet forums and social media has, on several occasions, spilled over into different forms of physical violence. Children are exposed to hate speech from a very young age due to their early entry into the digital world. An active campaign against online hate speech, especially that which directly involves or influences children and young people, therefore became one of the priorities of the Bulgarian Safer Internet Centre (SIC) in 2016.
