And we all loved it, learned a lot and brought home not only more kilos on the scale, but good ideas for our work!

Training and networking events for youth workers in Austria

In 2014, a new format for youth workers was established by the Austrian Safer Internet Centre (SIC), Saferinternet.at: regional networking events for extracurricular youth workers. This informal format proves to be really useful for those quite flexible acting youth workers: there is no fixed agenda, not too many formalities for participation, and everybody is welcome to participate. The agenda of the day is fixed on the morning of the day, shaped around the needs and wishes of those present.

Intervention against chain messages

For a while now, and especially since kids in primary schools have been using smartphones widely, gruesome chain messages spread by kids has become a relevant topic in trainings for those aged 8-11 years. Such chain messages are designed to be spread among kids, with every message stating that it should be sent to at least 10 other kids. Presently in Austria, most chain messages are spread by kids via WhatsApp.

Facebook launches new Safety Center

But are teens aware of the possible immediate consequences of their social media behaviour? Are they conscious of the risks associated with bullying or self-harm messages?
