UNESCO marks 28 September as the International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI) with the aim that more countries will adopt FOI (freedom of information) legislation, develop policies for multilingualism and cultural diversity in cyberspace, and ensure that those people with disabilities are integrated. These steps will further strengthen progress towards the 2030 Development agenda and pave the way for the creation of knowledge societies worldwide.

IDUAI 2020 will focus on the right to information in times of crisis and on the advantages of having constitutional, statutory and/or policy guarantees for public access to information to save lives, build trust and help the formulation of sustainable policies through and beyond the COVID-19 crisis.

See the UNESCO website for further information.

Here on the Better Internet for Kids (BIK) portal, we’ll be looking at issues regarding access to information in support of the day. Come back nearer the time to read more.

And if you’re marking the day in some way linked to the Better Internet for Kids agenda, why not share an article with us - see our content contribution guidelines, or get in touch for more information.
