Safer Internet Day 2024 approaches: only two weeks left!

Safer Internet Day (SID) is just around the corner, scheduled for Tuesday, February 6, 2024. On this day, millions of people around the world will unite under the theme "Together for a Better Internet" for the 21st edition of this significant event. We invite you to join the movement and help us ensure that the internet is a place of opportunities for children and young people where they can create, engage, and share positively and freely.

A picture of Safer Internet Day Celebration

Throughout the years, Safer Internet Day (SID) has become a landmark event in the online safety calendar. Starting as an initiative of the EU SafeBorders project in 2004 and subsequently embraced by the Insafe network as one of its earliest actions in 2005, Safer Internet Day has grown beyond its traditional geographic zone. Today, it is observed and celebrated and is now celebrated in over 180 countries and territories across the globe.

This edition will again reflect on the European strategy for a better internet for kids (BIK+). Adopted in May 2022, the strategy's vision is for age-appropriate digital services where every child in Europe is protected, empowered, and respected online, and no one is left behind.
Creating an environment where children are protected from potential online risks and empowered with the necessary tools and knowledge to navigate the digital landscape responsibly and encouraging an online space where each child is treated with respect and dignity is essential to our vision. In essence, we aim to build a digital ecosystem that leaves no child behind, fostering a sense of inclusivity and safeguarding the rights and experiences of every young individual.
