Happy Europe Day!

Today we celebrate Europe Day, an annual celebration of peace and unity in Europe. On 9 May 1950, the Schuman Declaration that launched the European Coal and Steel Community was signed: the first step on the road to today's European Union.

Here on the Better Internet for Kids (BIK) portal, we'll be celebrating the work of Insafe, the European network of Safer Internet Centres (SICs), in support of the day.
Each Safer Internet Centre conducts awareness-raising activities and provides information, advice and assistance to children, youth, parents and teachers on online issues in their country. As a network, we have the opportunity to share best practices, as well as explore online trends which are transversal across the network. The Insafe training meetings, which take place every six months,  foster the exchange of knowledge and experience about the latest online issues and trends and how these may impact on the work of Awareness Centres and Helplines in Europe. The latest training meeting, which took place in April 2016 in Cyprus, allowed the network to reflect on the impact of technology on the health and wellbeing of children and young people, gaming, virtual reality and the recent adoption of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) by the European Parliament.
Additionally, the network produces educational resources in different languages from across the European Union and beyond on a range of topics such as cyberbullying, sexting and grooming. All resources are available at the Better Internet for Kids Resource gallery.
