  • Positive content and well-being at home

    • Suggestions for quality time in front of the screen. Agreements made with children about the time spent in front of a screen will, in many cases, be circumvented during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it is good to make sure that their engagement with the digital world is still of good quality. This article compiles various websites that contain educational material, interactive books, software, audiovisual material, and activities for children.
    • Visit the most famous museums in the world from home. The world's largest museums now offer online browsing options in their collections. Find some useful links in this article.
    • Suggestions for theatre, cinema and books... from the couch. These days, more and more services are available for free online. The Greek Safer Internet Centre has compiled some options for online theatre, cinema and books.
    • Booklet "Time in front of the screen". An information leaflet with tips for managing time on the internet.
    • Educational YouTube channels for teens and younger children. YouTube is not just for entertaining young and old viewers; in many cases it also offers knowledge in a fun and entertaining way. Of course, videos of a few minutes in length cannot offer comprehensive knowledge or replace a good book, but they can spark our curiosity or give us a good introduction. SaferInternet4Kids.gr lists several interesting channels in this article.
  • How to respond to online risks under the COVID-19 pandemic

    • How to stay safe online during the pandemic. As schools close and people are confined to home, we are using the internet and online services more now than ever before. This is probably a good time to remember a few basic points to stay safe on the internet.
    • COVID-19: How to deal with misinformation. Rumors and misinformation about COVID-19 are spreading quickly, especially on social media. How do we protect from over-information and misinformation? How can we discern if a news article is true or false? This article offers some tips.
    • Tips from Europol. An infographic with general online safety tips from Europol.
    • Brochure "How informed are you?". A leaflet with tips to stay safe online during the lockdown.
    • Safe teleworking. Two posters with tips to work safely from home, both for employees and for businesses, produced in collaboration with Europol.
    • Call of Duty: Warzone - a guide for parents. Call of Duty: Warzone is an extension of the game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare which has become extremely popular during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this game players use 'heavy' weapons, such as machine guns and grenades, to kill their opponents until only one player is left alive, who is the winner. SaferInternet4Kids.gr has created a guide with everything parents need to know about the game.
    • What is Zoom and what we should watch out for. The videoconferencing app Zoom has become widely popular during the COVID-19 pandemic. As with any other application or platform, it is important to understand how it works and the potential risks of using it. Learn more in this article.
    • Webinar on the use of the internet during the lockdown period: What should parents watch out for? What should we pay attention to if we want to use the internet safely? How do we protect ourselves from fake news at this critical time? How much time is too much time in front of the screen for our kids during the lockdown? Is there a way to guarantee a quality internet experience for our children? These and other online safety questions were discussed with 88 participants in a webinar on 22 April 2020. The recording is available on the SaferInternet4Kids.gr YouTube channel.
    • Netflix security. A brochure with everything you need to know to use Netflix safely.
    • Beginners' lessons on the basic use of the internet. These lessons, created some time ago by SaferInternet4Kids.gr to ensure that children use the internet safely, have become very relevant during the COVID-19 pandemic because we all are spending more time online.

The Greek Safer Internet Centre also provides helpline services allowing children and young people, and parents and carers to access personalised advice and support.
