Introducing the Back2School campaign

It’s September once again, which means it’s time for pupils to go back to school. Better Internet for Kids (BIK) wants to kick off the new school year with a campaign aimed at anyone working with children and young people to educate them to a safer, better internet experience, including teachers and educators, to support their activities and raise awareness of online safety topics in the classroom.

Date 2023-09-11 Author BIK Team Section awareness, youth Topic gaming, love, relationships, sexuality (online), media literacy/education, sexting Audience children and young people, media specialist, teachers, educators and professionals

The campaign will run from Friday, 8 September 2023 (International Literacy Day) until 13 October 2023, and will cover a range of online safety topics including online gaming, mis- and disinformation, Artificial Intelligence (AI), algorithms on social media, and digital mental health.

The BIK Teacher corner

The Teacher corner is a section of the BIK portal entirely dedicated to teachers, educators and other adults who work with children and young people. It is your ‘one stop shop’ for learning and teaching about digital citizenship and online safety, and your go-to place for free information, advice and suggested resources to empower you to educate and support youth to safely and positively navigate their digital world.

There, you will find a wide selection of learning modules, providing teachers and educators you with a broad knowledge base to understand the opportunities, risks and educational approaches related to digital citizenship and online safety, and deep dive articles, providing teachers and educators with greater information, advice and resources to understand specific topics/areas of risk such as cyberbullying, mis- and disinformation, sexting and sextortion, AI, online gaming, and healthy digital habits.

Other initiatives

The Insafe network of Safer Internet Centres never shies away from producing educational resources and content around the #Back2School campaign. We will be giving visibility to similar campaigning activities, initiatives, events organised by the Insafe network itself, with the aim to collectively amplify our dissemination efforts.

Alongside all the aforementioned resources, we have been gathering resources and information from the Insafe network on MOOCs (massive open online courses) to additionally support teachers and educators in their classroom activities to empower youth to safely and positively navigate their digital world. We will be disseminating a directory of MOOCs for everyone to benefit from. Keep a close eye on the BIK portal, the Insafe Weekly Update and the BIK bulletin in the upcoming weeks.
