AWARENESS

Within the Insafe network of Safer Internet Centres (SICs), National Awareness Centres (NACs) focus on raising awareness and understanding of safer internet issues and emerging trends.

They run campaigns to empower children, young people, parents, carers and teachers with the skills, knowledge and strategies to stay safe online and take advantage of the opportunities that the internet and mobile technologies provide.

The network also works extensively with other stakeholders, such as the research community, industry and other NGOs, to extend the reach of key messages and awareness-raising actions.

Latvia – "Wify's Game" on online safety and media literacy

As part of the social campaign "Superheroes on the internet", the Latvian Safer Internet Centre (SIC) (Drossinternets.lv) has developed and issued "Wify's Game", which is the first board game presented to Latvian schools that covers many aspects of using the internet safely and smartly. "Wify's Game" is issued in 3,000 copies and is available to Latvian schools for free.

Screen time do's and don'ts

Screen time has, since the inception of television, been cited by parents and educators as being an issue among children and youth. The proliferation of tablets and smartphones seems to have rekindled such worries, particularly in view of the fact that unlike TVs, these powerful devices are portable. "Superheroes on the internet" campaign

Safer Internet Ambassadors Programme in Latvia
