Since 2014, non-formal lessons on safe internet behaviour have been implemented on this day based on interaction and communication with children and young people across Ukraine. Our goal is to inform children, young people, teachers, youth workers, parents and caregivers about online safety, to discuss threats that could harm people, to identify ways to prevent negative impact of the internet, to share respectful behaviour online, best practices of online participation and to present and discuss information about the No Hate Speech Movement.
We deliver our activities to young people through non-formal education methods and children/youth participation in schools, clubs and youth associations. Most of the SID activities are planned in the educational institutions.
Translation and adaptation of the handbook for teens "the Web We Want" was initiated by the Better Internet Center within the EUN Memorandum. Afterwards the translation of the manual into Ukrainian has been carried out by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine within the framework of the project "Improving Legal and Human Rights Education" implemented jointly with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
On the eve of the Safer Internet Day, 4 February 2019, the Institute of Modernization of Educational Content of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, NGO "Better Internet Centre" and Educational Complex №141 invite educators to take part in all-Ukrainian online safety webinar.
Information materials on child safety online and Safer Internet Day have been published in different journals for educators across Ukraine within the cooperation of the Ukraine SID Committee and three publishing agencies.
On 5 February 2019, Cisco Academy, in cooperation with Department of the Cyber Police of Ukraine and ERC, invite children and youngsters to participate in the all-Ukrainian online lesson on cybersecurity.
On 5 February 2019, the Ombudsman for children with the President of Ukraine, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and Juvenile Prevention, invite all schools to organise a lesson "Intimate selfies on the internet - a joke or a dangerous risk?". The lesson was developed in collaboration with the cyber police and the Ranok publishing agency with the support of an internet partner Datagroup and a telecommunication partner Vodafone Ukraine to inform children about the risks of sending their nude photos, as well as the crimes that are associated with it. The lesson uses video material from the Europol Information Campaign (European Police) and propose a dialogue format. Teachers who hold this lesson will have the opportunity to receive a certificate of the "Ranok" publishing agency.
On 7 February 2019, Google Ukraine, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, will hold a round-table discussion on Safer Internet Day. Among speakers at this event, there will be representatives of the educational sphere, public organisations, foreign missions to Ukraine, state officials, as well as academics. Such topics related to online safety as countering cyber threats by educational institutions, the ecosystem of a safe internet for children and adolescents, the level of cyber security in Ukraine, and cyber defense of public sector websites will be discussed by the speakers.

What we are doing to support the SID 2019 slogan of "Together for a better internet"…
We see our role in helping children and young people to be an active part of positive changes in the digital age. We show those sides and opportunities of the internet which lead to personal self-development and self-realisation.
About the organisation
In 2017, inspired by our five years of work as Safer Internet Day National Committee and the possibility to take part in the creation of the safer internet for all, we established an NGO: "Better Internet Centre". In preparation for Safer Internet Day 2018, we launched the guide for pedagogues with exercises for teens and youth on human rights online, successful stories of online participation of children, addressing for help and support, health management during digital device usage. We are working on translation and adaptation of research, UNICEF, Council of Europe reports, and Insafe material making them more accessible for everybody in each part of Ukraine: from rural areas to big cities.
We see our role in helping children and young people to be an active part of positive changes in the digital age. We show those sides and opportunities of the internet which lead to personal self-development and self-realisation.
