French Safer Internet Centre
About the organisation
The French Safer Internet Centre exists to promote a safer and better use of the Internet and mobile technologies among children and young people.
Awareness centre
Description: Internet Sans Crainte is the national awareness-raising programme promoting a better internet for children and young people in France. The programme is operated by Tralalere, producer of pluri media educational programmes and awareness campaigns. It produces multimedia educational resources, often with the support of the Ministry of Education, which are extremely widely used both in schools and in other educational structures.
Relying on an active, participative approach, we aim at raising awareness among children, parents and educators for a better use of the internet, and promote safer and more creative online practices.
In line with the Better Internet Strategy of the EC, we are producing resources in order to further enhance positive/critical/creative online practices by youth aged 9-18.
Helpline
Description: Net Ecoute 0800 200 000, the French Helpline, is dedicated to all the issues that may arise from the connected lives of minors.
The service, available Monday-Friday from 9am until 7pm offers counselling, advice and help to minors up to 21 years of age, their parents and professionals.
The helpline is a service provided by e-Enfance, the prominent French online safety NGO, partnering locally with industry and police authorities to streamline the best help possible towards those in need.
Hotline
Description: The French Hotline, Point de Contact, was founded in 1998 by AFPI, the French Internet Service Providers Association, as a self-regulatory instrument of the internet industry to allow internet users to easily report illegal content encountered online.
Point de Contact provides a simple, anonymous and mobile-friendly web form under www.pointdecontact.net for users to report illegal content. The main scopes of activity of the hotline are child sexual abuse material (CSAM), racism and xenophobia, terrorism, and shocking content accessible to minors.
Point de Contact's mission is to assist users and internet service providers to react to illegal content, and to help law enforcement.
Key successes
The French Safer Internet Centre produces multimedia educational resources, often with the support of the Ministry of Education, which are extremely widely used both in schools and in other educational structures.
Relying on a active, participative approach, these resources include serious games, participative devices, cartoons, online activities, and so on. In line with the Better Internet Strategy of the EC, we are now preparing a set of coding apps including a strong media education component, in order to further enhance positive/critical/creative online practices by youth aged 9-18.
The project is supported by the French government (PIA).
